account-runebook

The Account Runebook is a personal travel registry shared by every character on your account. It is not a physical item, it never runs out of charges, and it does not take up bag space. You open it with a command, and the runes you save are available the next time you log in on any of your characters.

It works alongside ordinary runes and runebooks rather than replacing them.

  • [Runebook - opens your Account Runebook.
  • [AR - shortcut for [Runebook.
  • [RunebookReset - wipes your saved runes and restores the default starter books. On success you will see “Your travel assistant has been reset to default.”

When your Account Runebook is created for the first time, or after you run [RunebookReset, it comes pre-seeded with five top-level runebooks, one per facet:

Runebook Map
Trammel Trammel
Ilshenar Ilshenar
Malas Malas
Tokuno Tokuno
TerMur TerMur

Felucca is not included by default - the Account Runebook cannot be used in Felucca at all.

The exact list of towns, dungeons, shrines and points of interest inside each starter book matches the Sosaria destination lists used by the Go gump. Two entries are always pinned to Malas regardless of which book they appear in: Luna Bank and Luna Stables.

You cannot open your Account Runebook if:

  • You are on a desolate map - “You cannot use your account runebook on a desolate map.”
  • You are in Felucca - “You cannot use your account runebook in Felucca.”
  • You are inside an instanced area - “You cannot use your account runebook inside of an instanced area.”

Staff (GM and above) bypass these checks.

Marking a new rune, creating a new sub-book, or marking via target also requires:

  • You are not in Felucca - “You cannot mark runes in Felucca.”
  • You are not on a desolate map - “You cannot mark runes in desolate lands.”
  • The standard travel check for marking succeeds at your current spot.

In addition, players (not staff) cannot mark a rune in:

  • Jail
  • Green Acres
  • An active champion spawn region - “You cannot mark a rune here.”
  • A water tile, unless your character can swim (for example, while mounted on a sea horse) - “You cannot mark a rune on a water location unless you are riding a sea horse!”

Rune descriptions are capped at 40 characters. Leading and trailing spaces are trimmed, and empty descriptions are silently discarded. The same 40-character cap applies when you rename an existing rune.

Pressing a rune's recall button:

  1. If you are already standing at the rune's destination, you are told “You are already there.”
  2. Plays the recall sound.
  3. Is refused if you are flagged criminal (“Thou'rt a criminal…”), in combat (“Wouldst thou flee during the heat of battle??”), or overloaded (“Thou art too encumbered to move.”).
  4. Is refused if the destination is in Felucca. The server broadcasts “{name} attempted to use Account Runebook to recall to Felucca.” in red.
  5. Is refused if the destination is on a desolate map, with a similar broadcast.
  6. Is refused if the destination is a water tile and you cannot swim - “You cannot recall to a water location unless you are riding a sea horse!”
  7. Must pass the standard travel checks at both your current location and the destination.
  8. On success: you and your pets teleport to the destination. No reagents, no charges, no skill check, and no chance of failure.

Staff bypass the map-based blocks (Felucca, desolate); the standard travel checks still apply.

The gate button on a rune row works similarly to recall, with a few extra rules:

  1. You cannot open a gate if you are standing on an existing moongate (“You are standing on top of a moongate.”) or if a moongate already exists at the destination (“There is already a moongate there.”).
  2. Felucca and desolate destinations are blocked the same way as recall, with broadcasts that say “open a gate to” instead of “recall to”.
  3. Water destinations are refused if you cannot swim.
  4. The same combat / criminal / overload / instance / travel checks apply.
  5. On success: “You open a magical gate to another location.” A gate sound plays at both ends, and two moongates appear - one at your feet pointing to the destination, and one at the destination pointing back.

The gates created by the Account Runebook differ from normal moongates in a few ways:

  • They cannot be dispelled.
  • They do not show the Felucca warning prompt (irrelevant in practice, since Felucca destinations are blocked anyway).
  • They last exactly 15 seconds and then delete themselves.
  • They do not survive a server restart - if a save and load cross paths, the gate is removed.

The Account Runebook has no charges, no recharge cost, and no fixed capacity. Recall and gate do not consume anything. You can save as many runes and sub-books as you like; there is no enforced limit.

To prevent button-spam, the gump throttles your actions: clicks that arrive within 100 ms of your previous click are rejected with “You must wait before using the Account Runebook again.”

This system is completely separate from the ordinary in-game Runebook item, which is unaffected.

  • The header reads “Account Runebook” in normal use or “Organize Mode” when you are reorganizing.
  • Rune entries are paginated 9 per page, with previous/next buttons.
  • Sub-runebooks are always listed before runes within the same page. You can nest runebooks inside runebooks to any depth.
  • Each rune row in travel mode has three buttons: recall / open, gate (runes only), and delete.
  • Each row in organize mode has buttons for up, down, rename, and (for runes) move to book.
  • Two sort buttons are available: Sort A-Z sorts books and runes separately by name, and Sort by Map groups runes by destination map and then by name.

Your Account Runebook saves whenever the world saves. It is keyed to your account, so any character you log in on sees the same runes. If you delete and re-make a character on the same account, your runebook is preserved. If you have never used it before on a given account, opening it for the first time automatically seeds it with the default contents listed above.
